This project, completed in 2019, provided much-needed space for recent growth of various core functions of the aircraft group at Moog’s Elma, NY campus and consisted of a 2-story 91,600 sf (45,800 each level) addition as well as significant interior renovations of existing office and stock room areas. A separate 2,100 s.f. employee entry addition provided an opportunity to replace an aging pedestrian bridge, as well as connect multiple buildings and create an uninterrupted spine to allow continuous and direct access between various groups and departments.
The addition provided 28,400 s.f. of office space for various departments and 63,200 s.f. of assembly and test space. Directly adjacent to this space is 7,300 s.f. open office space for engineering design teams that support the A&T functions. In addition to numerous break-out areas and huddle rooms, a conference suite on both levels provides flexible meeting space.
The lower level of the A&T space houses hydraulic pump rooms and an intricate network of hydraulic piping and shop air to feed the various test stand and workstations on both the upper and lower levels. In-slab walker duct system was utilized to distribute power and data to support the client’s need for an open floor plan with maximum long-term flexibility.
The exterior facade is a two-story aluminum and glass curtain wall construction with a metal panel cornice/soffit system. Tall interior storefront systems were utilized to separate the A&T functions from the engineering areas, but still allow natural daylighting to penetrate deep into the building footprint. At grade, the perimeter of the addition is surrounded by a rain garden system which is part of campus wide improvements to the storm water drainage system.
