This “Wrightian - Prairie Style” home of about 3000 S.F. enjoys the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, yet is just a short walk to the village. Nestled on an upward sloping 5 acre site running west to east, the house was sited to take advantage of what the property has to offer. Winding along the south property line is a deep ravine and small slate bottom creek with waterfalls. The house appears to be hugging the edge of the ravine to get a glimpse of the falls through its floor to ceiling windows.
Throughout the home, the outdoors is drawn indoors by its numerous grouping of windows, giving it a sense of floating in the woods. The cherry, red oak and maple trees that were removed to clear the site were harvested, milled and kiln dried to be used as flooring, furniture and finished trim. The custom designed wood trim throughout the house carries a theme of elegant simplicity.
Natural exterior colors and low maintenance materials were selected to harmonize the house with its natural setting including some limestone outcroppings. This same theme of colors and low maintenance materials were brought into the interior spaces with the occasional splash of color.
